Goldfish was bred from wild types of carp, around 960-1279 AD in China. Gradually they were introduced to Korea, Japan in 1502, and in 1611, goldfish were introduced to Portugal and from there to other parts of Europe. They came to America sometime during the 1800's. Today there are over 500 species of goldfish found throughout the world.

Goldfish come in different colors such as gold, pink and bronze. They possess the sub-colors such as calico and metallic. The colors on goldfish come from their skin, not their scales. Their scales are transparent. Goldfish skin will "tan' like human skin, and for the same reason. So goldfish kept in ponds (sunlight), will be darker and have more vibrant colors due to more pigmentation. If a goldfish is left in the dark it will turn almost white.

Goldfish have the longest lifespan of any fish ever domesticated by humans. An average lifespan of a goldfish is about 5-10 years, they can live 20 years or more if properly cared for. The oldest recorded goldfish was one raised by a couple in England.It lived to be over 40.

In Chinese, Korean and Japanese culture, goldfish is considered as an invitation and magnet to wealth, prosperity, and harmonious movement, especially in business and personal affairs.

In Chinese, goldfish is pronounced Jin Yu. Yu sounds exactly like bounty/surplus. Therefore goldfish became a symbol of surplus and wealth, and a gift of goldfish is a blessing in the hope of good fortune. In Feng Shui, a painting of goldfish is regarded as having the same effect as an actual goldfish tank by practitioners.

In ancient Greece, people believed goldfish enhanced good luck in marriage and relationships.

Ancient Egyptians kept goldfish in the house as a lucky omen for the family and helped cheer up domestic situations.

During the 1620s, it became a tradition in Southern Europe for married men to give their wives a goldfish on their one year anniversary. People believed goldfish signify good luck and fortune.

As one of the most beautiful and versatile species of fish, goldfish is one of the most attractive creatures in an aquarium, home, hotel, restaurant and malls, or parks. It makes the surrounding pleasant and lively because its lovely appearance and elegant movements. They are adored by their beautiful colors and body configurations. But goldfish may not only be a thing of beauty.

This fascinating creature have strong associative learning abilities, as well as social learning skills. They are able to distinguish their owners from strangers. Goldfish can also recognized the voice, vocal vibration, or sound of their owners and people around them.

Goldfish have a memory-span of at least three months and can distinguish between different shapes, colors and sounds. The goldfish can be trained to recognize and to react to light signals of different colors or to perform tricks, such as the limbo, fetch, and soccer.

Goldfish can be taught tricks. The adorable youtube video can just prove that.

I have lived close to High Park for over 10 years now. High Park is Toronto's largest public park and my favor of High Park are Cherry Blossom and Swan.

Cherry blossom has long been a favor object in LAVISHY designs for the past 10 years from wallet to jewelry.

For Chinese, cherry blossom is a symbol of power that represent feminine beauty and holds an idea of power or feminine dominance. It is also the symbol of love.

For the Japanese, cherry blossom holds very different meaning. Because cherry blossom is a very delicate flower that blooms for a very short time. So in the Japanese culture, it represents the transience of life. The Japanese have long held strong to the Buddhist belief of the transitory nature of life and it is very noble to not get too attached to a particular outcome or not become emotional because it will all pass in time.

For the past decade, we tried to see the cherry blossom when we can because you can easily miss it. Ofter when we found the time to be there, all we saw was falling petals cover the group or flowerless branches.

I love cherry blossom not only for it stunning beauty but also the message--life is short, beauty is going away fast, enjoy the happiness when you can and learn to let go and let it be.

Rose necklace. This is all new design for 2011 Valentine's day. I have always loved rose--but the funny thing is rose was never a good seller for us at the wholesale level unless we make it very rock & roll--we once designed a huge rose pendant necklace which is not romantic at all but they were the only rose theme products did well at the wholesale level. I am very grateful that we have 2 stores and 1 online store to sale things I personally like but can't do it for the wholesale. Yes, I love rose. I once at one of my favor store in New York bought all they had of rose scent both products from London--it smells like haven! I kept one soap beside my bed in the night table draw and smell it once a while to cheer me up after a long hard day. I have few rose in the front yard. One is orange that smells great and one in yellow and one in white. I collection tea cup with rose prints.

Where are you, Masami?

Masami is a Japanese girl used to work with us. She left Japan shortly after her high school graduation to Australia by herself. Then she moved to Toronto. She is not your typical Japanese doll at all--mature, independent, foxy, smart, and very happy. Because she works a lot at the new store, so we did not have much time to get to know each other. But from what I saw, I know she will have a very bright future. Because of personal reason, she had to leave Canada and go back to Japan for a while. But she told us she will be back and go to school for photography. She sent me an email shortly after she arrived in Australia before she went back to Japan. I thought I would get back to her with a long and nice email after we finish fall 2010 collections development. Now I just could not find that email anywhere.
I named this necklace after her--Masami. I look forward to see you very soon!
And I am very sorry that I did not get back to you.

We want you to be able to enjoy them and they should bring out your inner happiness and pride. It should be more you than the jewelry), 3 good quality, 4. safe (even so in Canada it is not reuqired by law that fashion jewelry should be lead free. But all our own jewelry are lead free and we buy only lead free jewelry for our stores.). YU in Chinese means jade. Chinese used to call all beautiful stones Jade. The value of the stone will be measured by love but not color, clarity or size. It is very similar feeling I have to approach this collection. We use the made them in Canada and wholesale them. We could not keep up with the orders and have to outsources to local students to make them. The quality and delivery time was out of control. We decided not to continue this collection until we opened our first boutique. Now we hand-pick the natural material we like and make one of a kind pieces just for fun. The pleasure of creating something and find someone like it enough to buy it and wear it with pride is really rewarding. For the summer, we will have a new online store setted up only sell this one of a kind pieces. When I travel, I would collection vintage brooches and I have a lot of them now. I will make some statement necklaces with them. I found some very delightful glass beads look like marble only have rainbow of colors. I can not wait to see what I can do with them.
